Interdisciplinary workshop about Meng Jinghui’s piece “Two Dogs” Confucius Institute Nuremberg-Erlangen

Friday, 20th January and Saturday, 21 January, the Confucius Institute Nuremberg-Erlangen, in cooperation with the department of China Studies and Theater and Media Studies (ITM) of Erlangen-Nuremberg University held the third and last part of the interdisciplinary workshop about Meng Jinghui’s piece “Two Dogs”.

Director and author Marc Becker was invited to talk about the German premiere of the piece at Staatstheater Braunschweig in 2010. Starting with the long process of translation and adaption, Becker continued with intriguing and entertaining details the workshop participants enjoyed very much. In the discussion following up, everyone could add their impression of the play and their ideas of reception and interpretation.

On the next day the theory was reduced to practice: Different versions of the introductory part were rehearsed and the effect on the audience discussed.

Thanks to the synergy effects of this interdisciplinary workshop, experts in different fields could exchange their thoughts. This is the basis for future cooperation in theater, namely Lin Zhaohua’s piece “Toilet”.
