The Panel of Hanban Experts visited Confucius Classroom Munich

November 2, 2011, Confucius Classroom Munich organized the third training workshop, which was one of the "2011Overseas Chinese Teachers' Training " series. The experts are Professor ZHU Zhiping from Chinese Language & Culture College of Beijing Normal University , and Ms. LI Ning, the Director of Training Department from New Teachers’ Training Base of Chinese Language International Promotion.

With the emphasis on the cultivating the communicative skills of second language, teaching Chinese as a second language is facing a subject that is how to combine the language elements teaching and language communicative abilities training together in the classroom. Professor ZHU Zhiping took the text book "Learn Chinese with me" as an example to explain the relationship between them as well as the integration of them. Meanwhile, Professor Zhu also elaborated the importance of curriculum design, instruction design and teaching-plan design in the second language teaching. She explained that the relationships among these three designs were both independent and complementary and interdependent.

Subsequently, Professor Zhu made a comparison with the teaching principles of primary and secondary education in different countries. She described that cultivating the basic communicative skills and the basic abilities to contrast the two cultures were the common principles in the basic stages of second language teaching. Then, Professor Zhu explained the design ideas of teaching content from different levels, such as topic-centred、pattern-centred and activity-centred teaching. After that, Professor Zhu emphasised on the importance of the meaning-centered instructional design because the structure of Chinese characters themselves often hides deep meanings. Thus, Professor Zhu said that in the process of teaching Chinese as a second language, the teachers should pay special attention to the selection and application of the topic.

In the afternoon, the second lecture stared. Firstly, Ms. LI Ning organized the participants to play a "ice-breaking" game, so the atmosphere in the classroom was very lively. Then, she described the concepts of teaching activities, the design methods and their application in the classroom teaching. It is worth mentioning that Ms. Li Ning also demonstrated some interesting classroom activities from the aspects of phonetics, vocabulary, writing and so on. So, every teacher on the site felt intuitively how to combine education with recreation, and how to make the students in the learning process to gain a sense of achievement and happiness at the same time.

After the training workshop, all the teachers said they had a productive session, and benefited a lot from it. Everyone had boundless feeling. In previous teaching, the teachers more emphasized on preparing lesson plans. However, through today's excellent instruction by Professor ZHU Zhiping, the teachers all had a more comprehensive and profound understanding of the importance of curriculum design and instructional design in the whole teaching process. They also knew that only making a good curriculum design, they would more fully understand the needs of their students, and could better identify their teaching goals and teaching principles. Through the lively teaching activities show by Ms. Li Ning , the teachers mastered more classroom teaching skills and activity methods. Meanwhile, the teachers could not wait to apply these interesting classroom activities to their teaching.

Finally, Professor ZHU Zhiping and Ms. Li Ning presented the training certificate issued by Hanban to the every participant, and took a picture together.
